Taro
A staple for the Hawaiian diet, all parts of the taro can be eaten. There are two main types of Taro, one that grows partly submerged in low flooded taro paddies, and another (as in the photo) that prefers a dryer soil. The root of the wetland taro is prefered for making Poi, a purple colored cooked and blended sweetpotato like paste.
